PRE-OPERATIVE CHECKLIST

Please read the information below to help you prepare for your upcoming procedure. If you need further details, refer to your admission paperwork or contact the Rooms directly.

Anaesthetists

You will receive a quote for your anaesthetic from your Anaesthetist’s rooms.

 

Once you receive your quote, contact your Health Fund to confirm your level of cover. 

 

You will need the following details (available on the quotes provided by your Specialist Surgeon and Anaesthetist):

  • Surgeon’s name

  • Surgeon’s item number(s)

  • Surgeon’s fees

  • Anaesthetist’s name

  • Anaesthetist’s fees

  • Name of hospital

If you have any questions about your medications before surgery, please contact your Anaesthetist directly.

Out of Pocket and Gap Costs

Please confirm any out-of-pocket or gap costs with your Health Fund.

 

Once you have reviewed and understood the quote, please sign the Financial Consent form. If applicable, your credit card details may be requested on this form.

 

Return your signed Financial Consent to our Rooms as early as possible. We must receive this prior to your procedure.

 

Please also contact our Rooms at least 7 days before your procedure to arrange payment of any applicable gap fees outlined in your quote.

Pre Operative Blood Tests or Ultrasound

Your surgeon may request a pre-operative blood test or ultrasound. If this applies to you, please ensure these are completed in the timeframe advised.

Note: If a "Group and Hold" test is required, it must be performed within 7 days of your procedure. You will have been given the appropriate request forms and timing information by your surgeon.

Fasting and Hospital Arrival

Please refer to your specific Specialist when reading the information below.

Of note, if the hospital contacts you directly and requests for you to arrive at a different time, please follow their instruction.

Dr Robyn Leake, Dr Jennifer Pontré and Dr Amy Fitzgerald

Morning procedures: Please fast from midnight prior to your procedure, and admit to the hospital at 7am.

Afternoon procedures: Please have an early breakfast before fasting from 7am the day of your procedure. You may have sips of water until 10am. Please admit to the hospital at 12pm.

Dr Krish Karthigasu, Dr Phillipa Robertson and Dr Shital Julania

Morning procedures - Please fast from midnight prior to your procedure, and admit to the hospital at 7am.

Afternoon procedures - Please have an early breakfast before fasting from 7am the day of your procedure. You may have sips of water until 10am. Please admit to the hospital at 11am.

Mirena/Copper IUD

If you are scheduled to have a Mirena or Copper IUD inserted during surgery, please ensure you:

  • Fill the prescription at least 48 hours before your procedure

  • Bring the Mirena or Copper device with you to the hospital

Body Wash

Some hospitals may recommend a specific body wash to be used on the morning of surgery.


Please note: We do not recommend this wash, as it can be extremely harsh on your skin.

The hospital is aware that Dr Leake, Dr Pontré and Dr Fitzgerald’s patients have been advised accordingly.

Medical Students

Our Specialists are committed to teaching and may be accompanied by medical students during your care.

Your support in allowing medical students to be present is greatly appreciated, as it helps train the next generation of doctors.

If you would prefer not to have students involved in your care, please let our staff know early so we can make alternative arrangements. If you have any questions, feel free to discuss them with our Rooms.
